Migration checklist

Start in minutes. Validate before you switch.

  1. Start a representative pilot

Add one site to see its first check, then start a 7-day trial (card required) or subscribe.

Start with one representative URL you own or have permission to monitor. Save its baseline and exclude only known dynamic regions.

  2. Test coverage and alerts

Choose the paid plan needed for visual checks and your alert destinations. Trial billing and channel access depend on the selected plan.

Run both tools in parallel. On a safe test page, make a deliberate change and confirm the capture, alert and recovery workflow. Check mobile layouts and access requirements too.

  3. Move when verified

Move more URLs only after the pilot meets your needs. Keep Uptime Kuma until coverage and routing are verified. Visual Sentinel has no importer for Uptime Kuma exports; its monitor import takes a CSV with Name and URL columns.

Why teams pick Visual Sentinel

Verified customer feedback from operators running their production sites on Visual Sentinel.

Instant alerts that make website monitoring stress-free

I used to manually check every client website to make sure it was still online. If a plugin update, SSL issue, or hosting problem caused downtime, I usually found out only after a client complained. Visual Sentinel fixed that for me. It monitors all my sites and sends instant alerts when something goes wrong, whether it is downtime, performance degradation, certificate issues, DNS changes, or visual breakage. The support for multiple alert channels, including WhatsApp, makes it even more useful. It has saved me a lot of time and made my website management far less stressful.

Visual Sentinel picked up and detected a rogue XMR crypto miner that injected itself via Magento. Alerted me of the issues, made it obvious what the problem was, and I could get repairs done immediately. Took us 18 minutes from start to finish to completely scrape out this garbage after diagnosis finished, and around an hour of downtime total. Wouldn’t have had any idea without your tools.

Why would I pay for Visual Sentinel when Uptime Kuma is free?

Uptime Kuma is free to use but not free to run. You need a server ($5–20/month), time to maintain it, handle updates, manage backups, and fix issues when your monitoring server itself goes down. Visual Sentinel is fully managed. We handle infrastructure, updates, and reliability. Plus you get visual regression detection, content monitoring, and multi-region checks that Uptime Kuma cannot provide.

Does Uptime Kuma offer visual regression detection?

No. Uptime Kuma monitors HTTP status codes, response times, and can ping services. It also has a beta browser-engine (Chrome/Chromium) monitor type, but it does not compare screenshots of your pages for visual changes. Visual Sentinel uses Playwright to render your pages in a real browser and compares screenshots pixel-by-pixel to catch CSS breaks, missing images, and layout shifts.

What happens if my Uptime Kuma server goes down?

If the server hosting Uptime Kuma goes down, all your monitoring stops and you won't receive any alerts. This is the fundamental risk of self-hosted monitoring: your monitor can fail silently. Visual Sentinel runs on redundant managed infrastructure, so your monitoring continues even during infrastructure issues.

Can I use Uptime Kuma alongside Visual Sentinel?

Yes. Some teams use Uptime Kuma for internal service monitoring (Docker containers, local network services) and Visual Sentinel for production website monitoring with visual regression detection. The tools complement each other well.

Does Uptime Kuma check from multiple regions like Visual Sentinel?

No. Uptime Kuma runs on a single server and checks from that one location. Visual Sentinel checks from 2 global regions (EU, US) simultaneously, reducing false positives from regional network issues and giving you a global view of availability.

What happens to my alerts if my Uptime Kuma server crashes?

This is the fundamental risk of self-hosted monitoring: if your monitoring server goes down, all checks stop and you receive zero alerts. You won’t even know your monitor is dead unless you monitor the monitor. Visual Sentinel runs on managed, redundant infrastructure. Your monitoring continues even during server-level issues, and we handle failover automatically.

Can Uptime Kuma check from multiple regions like Visual Sentinel?

Not natively. Uptime Kuma runs on a single server and checks from that one location. You could deploy multiple instances, but that multiplies your maintenance burden. Visual Sentinel checks from EU and US simultaneously on every check, reducing false positives from regional network issues, without the burden of managing multiple servers.

Uptime Kuma can’t do visual monitoring. How big of a gap is that?

It’s a significant gap. Uptime Kuma checks HTTP status codes and response times, and its beta browser-engine monitor can load a page in Chromium, but it does not compare screenshots or detect visual changes. If your CSS breaks, images fail to load, or a deployment corrupts your layout, Uptime Kuma will report everything as healthy. Visual Sentinel renders your pages in a real browser and compares screenshots, catching visual issues that HTTP checks completely miss.

How much time does maintaining Uptime Kuma actually take?

Running Uptime Kuma requires ongoing maintenance: OS updates, Docker updates, backup management, SSL certificate renewal for the dashboard, disk space monitoring, and debugging when the instance becomes unresponsive. Most teams underestimate this at 1–2 hours per month. Visual Sentinel eliminates this entirely. We handle all infrastructure, updates, and reliability so you focus on your actual product.

Uptime Kuma supports Docker container monitoring. Does Visual Sentinel?

No. Uptime Kuma can monitor Docker containers directly via the Docker socket, which is a genuine advantage for teams running containerized infrastructure on the same host. Visual Sentinel does not offer Docker container monitoring. If you need container-level health checks, Uptime Kuma is a good complement to Visual Sentinel’s external website monitoring.
