Honest guides to choosing a monitoring tool

v2.232.0
  • ImprovedOur guide to the best website monitoring tools now ranks each tool by what its cheapest paid plan checks, shows prices with the date we checked them, and says where another tool is the better pick.
  • ImprovedThe guide includes two real examples of pages that broke while the site stayed up.
  • NewNew comparison: Visual Sentinel and Oh Dear.
  • ImprovedThe agency monitoring guide now covers Oh Dear, ManageWP, WP Umbrella and MainWP, with a table to help you pick.

Connect Visual Sentinel to your AI assistant

v2.231.0
  • NewConnect Visual Sentinel to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants that support remote MCP servers. Sign in once, choose a workspace and decide whether the assistant can only read or can also make changes. Account tools come with the Business and Agency plans.
  • NewSee which AI assistants are connected to your workspace, and disconnect any of them, in Workspace settings under Developer.
  • ImprovedThe incident timeline now shows updates you sent as updates, and a note added after an incident was closed no longer reads as a second close.

Setup screenshot fix

v2.230.1
  • FixThe first screenshot of your site during setup loads again.

Incident updates that reach your team at once

v2.230.0
  • NewWhen you close, update or reopen a website incident by hand, your team is alerted right away, and so are your status page subscribers while the page is public.
  • NewChoose "Don't notify anyone" to close or update an incident quietly. The timeline and your status page still show the change.
  • ImprovedStatus page email updates pause while a page is private or password protected, and resume when it is public again.
  • ImprovedChanging a status page password now asks every visitor for the new one.
  • ImprovedA server that has not reported yet now says so on its page, with the install command for owners and admins.
  • ImprovedWhen a trial reaches a plan limit, the upgrade prompt names the limit and the price of the next plan.
  • ImprovedLinks to Visual Sentinel pages now share a clearer preview image.
  • ImprovedThe Visual Sentinel MCP server for AI assistants now has 17 tools, including metrics for many monitors in one request.
  • FixChanging your country during checkout no longer closes the payment window.
  • FixPublic status pages list every current and past incident again.
  • SecurityEnhanced security hardening.

Clearer settings and selections

v2.229.0
  • ImprovedSelected options, tabs and filters now stand out clearly in both light and dark themes, and single-choice options can be changed with the arrow keys.
  • ImprovedMost monitor settings now save as you change them, with an Undo button, and use plainer wording.
  • ImprovedAdding a monitor is simpler, with clearer explanations of what each type checks and how many monitors you have left.
  • ImprovedWorkspace and alert settings are easier to follow, and your logo now sits with the rest of your brand settings.
  • ImprovedPublic status pages show service health as soon as the page loads.
  • ImprovedSome blog categories now open with a short guide and a suggested reading order.
  • FixVisual change alerts for sites with one or two monitored pages are no longer held back to be grouped with other pages.
  • FixServer agents installed in recent weeks now send their metrics again. If a server shows no data, run its install command again.
  • ImprovedBulk alert channel changes now show channels as clear, selectable chips.
  • ImprovedThe notifications panel now opens on unread notifications. All notifications are one click away.
  • SecurityEnhanced security hardening.

White-label in one place

v2.228.0
  • NewWhite-label settings now live in their own place: your brand, your email sender and your domains. Alert emails can go out from your own verified sender, and your name appears on Telegram alerts.
  • ImprovedPlans now lead with how many visual monitors each one includes and how many pages each covers, so it is clear what you get.
  • ImprovedMore comparison facts were re-checked against each tool's own pages.
  • ImprovedIf a payment fails, owners and admins now see a notice on every page with a button to update the payment method.
  • ImprovedDuring a trial you can ask us to switch your plan from Billing or an upgrade prompt, and we confirm any price change before it applies.
  • FixNew monitors no longer turn on visual checks when your plan has no visual monitor left.
  • FixAccepting a new screenshot now sends its confirmation right away instead of waiting to be grouped with other changes.

More accurate site alerts

v2.227.0
  • FixIf a grouped all-clear cannot be delivered, every page in the group now gets its own all-clear instead of only the last one.
  • ImprovedThe plan comparison now shows that every plan can alert you when expected text is missing from a page.
  • ImprovedComparison pages and guides now reflect current prices and features of other monitoring tools.
  • SecurityEnhanced security hardening.

One alert when a whole site goes down

v2.226.0
  • NewWhen several pages of the same website go down together, you get one alert listing the pages, and one all-clear when the site is back. A single page still alerts on its own. Every page keeps its own status and history.
  • NewWhen the layout changes on several pages of the same website around the same time, you get one alert listing those pages and how much each changed. One or two pages still alert on their own.
  • NewAccepting new screenshots on several pages at once now sends one summary instead of one message per page.
  • NewYou can now delete an alert channel from the Alerting page.
  • ImprovedWith white-label on, test messages carry your brand, and public status pages use your name in link previews and home-screen shortcuts.

White-label alerts

v2.225.0
  • NewWith white-label on, Microsoft Teams, PagerDuty and Opsgenie alerts, and grouped Slack and Discord summaries, carry your brand instead of ours, as Slack and Discord alerts already did.
  • NewWith white-label on and Powered by hidden, public status pages use your own icon in the browser tab.
  • ImprovedThe Terms explain how Agency workspaces may resell monitoring to their own clients.
  • FixService status pages say when a service refused our check, instead of showing it as up.

Alert emails to teammates

v2.224.1
  • FixAlert emails to a teammate's verified address in your workspace are delivered right away, without asking that address to confirm again.

Clearer incidents and plan limits

v2.224.0
  • FixA note from Rai starts with "Hi," when we do not have your first name.
  • FixA slow incident names the response time that raises an alert, even when the first check did not record a time.
  • FixQuick inspection shows severity in the same words as the incident list, such as "Critical" and "Medium".
  • FixAt your site limit, the add dialog and the page share one message, including any held price, instead of showing two.
  • FixOverview names a down site the same way the incident list does, such as "Server error (503)".
  • FixRecent activity uses the same plain incident wording, without status labels or symbols from the alert.
  • FixIf the exact upgrade charge cannot be loaded, or a plan change cannot be confirmed, Billing shows a plain message instead of a raw error.
  • FixWorkspace settings pages show a plain message instead of a technical error when something cannot load or be saved.
  • FixOn a phone, the Feedback tab no longer covers incident text. Feedback stays in the account menu, and the panel it opens now works with screen readers.
  • ImprovedThe note about faster checks says paid plans check every 5 minutes or faster.

Clearer incident history

v2.223.1
  • ImprovedIncident history separates each incident, with the site name under a plain description of what happened, such as "Site not responding (timed out)" or "Visual change detected".
  • ImprovedStatus and severity sit on their own lines, and date groups read as "Open" and "Today" instead of a single block of text.

A calmer dark theme

v2.223.0
  • ImprovedThe dark theme is calmer and easier to scan: the sidebar, cards and sections have clear edges, headings stand apart from secondary text, and bright colour is kept for buttons and real problems instead of healthy bars and labels.
  • ImprovedCharts in the dark theme use softer fills, and server meters, maintenance windows and status page charts no longer glow.
  • ImprovedNotifications mark unread items with a dot and a bold title, with an icon coloured by what happened.
  • ImprovedOn phones, the menu button, filters and status page editor controls are larger and easier to tap, and the top bar shows the page you are on.
  • ImprovedWhen you cancel a plan you can tell us why in one optional question, or skip it and continue straight to cancelling.
  • FixThe plan buttons on the pricing page respond to the first click, even while the page is still loading.
  • FixThe step-by-step check view on a monitor shows failed and skipped steps in the right colours in the dark theme.
  • FixThe Status column on Monitors no longer cuts off longer states, and the domain record table keeps record names on one line.

Clearer service status pages

v2.222.0
  • ImprovedService status pages for AI and developer tools explain what an outage looks like for that tool, and GitHub Copilot is now checked directly, with GitHub's own Copilot status and recent incidents shown alongside.
  • ImprovedEach service status page links to the services people usually check with it.
  • ImprovedStatus pages say exactly what our check covers, so a green result is never mistaken for proof that every part of a service works.
  • FixComparison and guide pages are clearer about what each tool lists, and their examples use neutral demo pages.

White-label polish and new guides

v2.221.0
  • ImprovedWith white-label on and "Powered by" off, client reports, status page sign-in and access pages, and status page update emails no longer mention Visual Sentinel. Update emails go out through your own verified email server when you have one.
  • FixThe unsubscribe link in status page update emails works again, and mail apps can offer one-click unsubscribe.
  • ImprovedService status pages let you start watching your own website straight from the result.
  • ImprovedNew pages on catching WordPress updates and Shopify theme changes that break a page, and refreshed comparison pages.
  • FixOn the sign-in and sign-up pages, a very quick click or Enter no longer clears what you typed.
  • ImprovedChoosing a plan on a phone shows the main button without scrolling, and Billing says clearly when your trial has started and when the first charge is.

A quicker start

v2.220.0
  • ImprovedSigning up takes one screen: add your website, see its first check and screenshot, and send yourself a test alert.
  • ImprovedThe sign-in page is simpler, with Google and GitHub first and the password rule shown as you type.
  • ImprovedConfirming your email no longer holds you up. Only alerts to that address wait until it is confirmed.
  • ImprovedChoosing a plan starts with the plan that fits what you added, with yearly billing selected and the saving shown.
  • ImprovedUpdated Terms of Service and Refund Policy.

A calmer dark mode

v2.219.3
  • ImprovedDark mode is calmer and easier to read. Each section has a clear edge, status cards use a soft colour instead of solid red or green, and the bright accent is kept for the main action on each page.
  • FixOn Monitors, site names stay readable with the Tools panel open. On narrower screens, issues show under each site name instead of in their own column.
  • FixThe Tidy up panel shows its "nothing to tidy" message on one line again.

Monitors tools panel

v2.219.2
  • FixOn Monitors, the Tools tab opens its panel beside your list on smaller desktop screens, instead of at the bottom of the page.

Service status pages

v2.219.1
  • FixFree service status pages always show the latest check when they first load.

Plan and billing gets its own page

v2.219.0
  • NewPlan and billing now has its own page, reachable from the account menu, the plan card in the sidebar and search. Your current plan, invoices and plan changes are in one place, and it reads clearly in both light and dark themes.
  • NewVisual checks show what they compare: the part of the page being compared and the parts hidden from comparison, with buttons to pick them on the page or edit them. They are no longer tucked under advanced options.
  • ImprovedThe welcome page no longer jumps while it loads, and sign-up messages are calmer and point at the field that needs attention.
