About Cloudflare
Cloudflare is a core internet backbone provider, running a CDN, DDoS protection, DNS resolution, Workers (edge compute), R2 (S3-compatible object storage), Pages (JAMstack hosting), Zero Trust (SSE/SASE), and the 1.1.1.1 public resolver. Because so much of the web proxies through Cloudflare, an outage can feel like the whole internet is down. Incidents are scoped per data center (Cloudflare has hundreds of POPs globally) or per product. Customers frequently see "Error 1020" or "Error 521" pages during partial outages where Cloudflare cannot reach origin servers. BGP-related incidents at Cloudflare have taken down unrelated sites that just happen to use Cloudflare DNS.
